Heartbroken Kenny

“No shoes, no shirt, no problem” are some famous words from our famous  Kenny Chesney. Kenny is known for his country music and southern charm. He was born and raised in Knoxville, Tennessee and he has a little more of a personal connection to our scruffy little city than most do.

I chose Kenny Chesney because he actually dated one of my good friend’s mom back when he was first starting out. Her name was Mandy Weals and she is in a lot of his first music videos. They met at ETSU during college. They dated for four years and got engaged in 1998. Mandy called off their wedding three weeks before they were due to marry in 1998 and started dating someone back from her hometown (typical Sevierville). The broken couple stayed in touch, but after Mandy had returned from her wedding to someone else, Kenny got married unexpectedly on the beach just as Mandy had. Kenny said that Mandy was his “first real love” and broke his heart. After they broke up, his most emotional break up songs we know and love are ones that were inspired by Mandy. Kenny now says he will never feature another girlfriend in a music video because if they break up, he has the promo to remind him of it all. You can see Mandy in the “How Forever Feels” music video. Watch the video here

While I have a personal connection to Kenny, I also love his music. Kenny is one of my favorite artists and always will be. I love listening to his country music every season because he is always coming out with a song appropriate for each season. Kenny is an artist that any country fan is crazy over and I find it so inspiring that he is from right here in Knoxville, Tennessee.

  1. That's very cool yet sad! I am glad he was able to use his emotions into his songs and today has become a very famous singer.
